Blackout Superstar top-lines a CD release party at Peabody’s Downunder this Saturday, January 21st, in support of their first CD, Whiskey Weekend.
The date kicks off a mini-Midwest tour that’ll take the Radium Records band to Louisville, Rochester, and Milwaukee later this winter. It’s also the latest entry in a series of decidedly fortunate events that have befallen the local all-star lineup, whose players already put in years of work in other bands.
Comprised of hard-rock alumni from Erase the Grey, Gatlin, and Rikets, the quintet (or BoSS for short) took first place in a battle of the bands this past summer, landing them on a satellite stage at the Rockstar Uproar Festival in September. The Blossom event saw the five-piece open for such well-knowns as Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, and Bullet for My Valentine on the Best Buy Music Gear stage—spoils for having beating hundreds of other entries in the Jagermeister-sponsored competition.
Blackout Superstar features Jonny Sayre (vocals), Ken Obloy (lead guitar), Jeff Butchko (rhythm guitar), Kenny Irizarry (bass), and new drummer Holly Manning. They recently shot a video for the disc’s lead-off single, “I’m Not the One,” but have a slew of in-concert and backstage footage available on their You Tube channel. Whiskey Weekend was produced with veteran Cleveland-area hardcore guru Ben Schigel (Chimaira, Evanescence, Drowning Pool)—but Blackout’s sound is more accessible. Though they sport as many tattoos and piercings as their head-banging hometown brethren, BoSS has ears for melody and hooks, all of which will be on display at Peabody’s.
Via the Sun and Impending Lies will kickoff the Peabody’s show. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets are only $8.00 in advance or $10.00 DOS.
